Step out Sheffield

Firshill Health Walk

The Firshill Health Walkers meet at 10.15 on Thursday mornings at the bus stop for Firshill Community Primary School (now Abbeyfield Primary Acadamy) on the junction of Barnsley Road and Orphanage Road. Local green spaces for walks include Burngreave cemetery, Roe woods and Parkwood Springs.

The Firshill health walks are not suitable for wheel chairs or baby buggies. New walkers need to be aware that although walks are always under 60 minutes walkers always stay together as a single group. There are sometimes options for walkers to 'opt out' before returning to the start but those with limited mobility may find this walk challenging.

Because there isn’t a suitable community centre or café for this group to meet at and return to afterwards the walk,s they do don’t always finish in Firshill. For example sometimes they walk into town, stop for a cuppa in a café and then catch a bus back. On other occasions they  might catch a bus to a pre-agreed destination and do their walk there. From April to October walkers sometimes Walk join the Ramblers ‘Walking Out’ walk instead of walking locally. These walks are usually (but not exclusively) on the second Thursday of the month and the meeting point for this walk is the Pond Street Bus Interchange.

New walkers are very welcome. Why not come and give us a try? The walks are free (nothing to expend except energy) - just bring your bus pass in case the plan is to walk outside the local area.

Buses:      Nos 29, 47, 48, 75, 76, 83, 83a, 87, 88, 97, 98 and 265.
